NON-SCALE VICTORIES

Hi Reader - How do you measure if your weight loss efforts are successful when the scale isn’t moving downward? How can you feel better about yourself, no matter what you presently weigh?

Pay attention to your non-scale victories (NSV)! These are the changes that will ultimately keep you at your preferred weight. The small, powerful changes you make will make the difference between constantly losing and gaining the same 10 (or 20, or 50) pounds and losing your weight for good.

These are some of the NSVs you might notice:

Physical Changes:

  1. Your clothing fits better.
  2. Your rings are no longer tight.
  3. You’re less out of breath when climbing stairs or walking.
  4. You’re looking in the mirror more often - and starting to like what you see.
  5. You’re sleeping better.
  6. Your knees or hips are aching less.

Emotional Changes:

  1. You’re feeling more confident.
  2. You have more energy.
  3. You’re not using food as frequently to help you feel better or to handle your boredom or stress.

Medical Changes:

  1. Your blood pressure is lower.
  2. Your cholesterol is lower.
  3. Your brain is less “foggy”.

Other changes:

  1. Your diet is healthier.
  2. You now easily leave some food on your plate.
  3. You’re checking with your hunger before you eat.
  4. You’re able to stop eating once you’re satisfied - even if everyone else is still eating.
  5. You’re exercising consistently because it helps you feel good.
  6. You have fewer cravings and know how to manage them.

What Went Well This Year?

Dr Barbara L Katz Lose Weight in Menopause WHAT WENT WELL THIS YEAR? Hi Reader - We’re all quick to criticize what we do wrong, and most of us are harder on ourselves than on our friends. However, if we want to reach our goals, it’s important to pay attention to what we are doing right and how we’ve grown. Some questions you can ask yourself are: What did you do well this year? How have you grown as a person? Are you more compassionate, a better friend, or a better listener? Have you learned...

Sarcopenia We all hope to live a long time - but what good is a long life if we’re frail and need to rely on others? To live independently and actively as long as possible, it’s important to be aware of sarcopenia so we can try to prevent its development for as long as possible. Sarcopenia is the age-related loss of muscle mass and strength. As we age, most of us lose muscle more easily than we gain it. The more muscle we lose, the more likely we are to become frail and suffer from poor...
